Nebraska Unemployment Extension

If you are a resident of Nebraska, have been drawing unemployment benefits, and about exhausted your benefit amount, you will be relieved to know that you may be eligible for a Nebraska Unemployment Extension.

Currently, Nebraska residents can be eligible to receive up to 26 weeks of unemployment benefits from their initial unemployment claim if they meet the eligibility requirements.  The filing date for emergency unemployment compensation has recently been extended until December 31, 2009.  Prior to that, the filing date for extended benefits was March 31, 2009.  You may now be eligible for up to 20 weeks of additional unemployment benefits if you continue to meet the eligibility requirements of not having a job and being available and willing for work.  The Nebraska unemployment extension has been granted by Federal legislation because of the current rate of nationwide unemployment.  The extension is funded by the Federal Government.  The current unemployment rate in the state of Nebraska is 4.2 percent, but it is much higher in other states.
