Nebraska Unemployment Insurance
If you have been employed for 18 months or more and live in Nebraska, you can file for Nebraska unemployment insurance if you lose your job or are temporarily laid off because of a work slow down. If you are a seasonal worker, you may also qualify for Nebraska unemployment insurance.
Like all other states, Nebraska provides temporary unemployment insurance to help its citizens when they suddenly find themselves out of work. The funding for this insurance comes from employers. The Federal Government covers federal unemployment extensions.
Your initial Nebraska unemployment insurance claim will provide a weekly benefit for you for 26 weeks. After you have received all your initial claims benefits, if you are still unemployed, you may be eligible to file for an extended benefit claim. An additional 20-week extension has been granted by the Federal Government and was signed into law in 2008. As of this date, the extension filing date has been moved to December 31, 2009.
To file your initial Nebraska unemployment insurance claim, you must call the Claims Office and speak with a claims specialist. You can also go to the Nebraska unemployment website and file your initial claim online. To be eligible to receive weekly benefits from Nebraska unemployment insurance, you cannot be responsible for losing your job, and you will not qualify if you quit your job. You must be available for work every week. You must be willing to take a job that is offered to you if you are qualified to perform the work duties.
Also, when you call to file a claim for Nebraska unemployment insurance, you will have to give them your driver’s license number or your Nebraska ID number if you do not have a driver’s license. If you are not a citizen of the United States, you may still qualify for unemployment insurance, but you will need to give them your Alien Registration Number.
